The Project

Vision

A local family with a vision and an impressive renovation project. The perfect team for the job includes Caitlin, who has a strong background in child care and early education, with 10 years of experience in nurseries and as a P1/2 primary school teacher. Ronnie is an experienced joiner with over 35 years in the field, bringing a passion for renovations and bespoke projects. Lastly, Lewis, a plumbing and heating engineer, he has the patience and dedication to see the project through.

The Building

Our building, which had been abandoned in 2019 and was previously used as a care home, is now being transformed into a setting dedicated to child care and early education. When we bought the property, it had been vandalized and needed a lot of love. As we progressed through this renovation project, more and more issues were cropping up. All 42 rooms were filled with furniture that we donated to local care homes and charities.

Part of the building was formerly a Victorian house, and we absolutely loved the period features, striving to restore and retain as many as we could. However, this meant that the rooms had little to no insulation and were cold and damp, prompting us to begin the process of stripping back to insulate them.

We removed many tons of lath and plaster from the building, replaced 48 windows, and knocked down partition walls to open up the space. The garden areas were fully renovated, and parking was added—we even put in a pencil fence! A total of 57 radiators were replaced or fitted, and the dormers were also replaced. Inside the property, we have fully fitted out the space to make it as accessible as possible for everyone, including tiny sinks and toilets designed for children, as well as a lift to ensure access to both floors. We also used a staggering 240 litres of paint!

Wee Buttons is born.

After a painstaking 9 months of hard work and a lot of determination, we successfully completed our renovation project and opened our doors to local families, showcasing our child care setting. Now operational, we have a strong team of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to providing the best early education to children and genuinely care about the project at wee buttons.
